Almost a month and a half ago I was with my parents at their house helping out in the garden. Among the numerous trees there was one full of flowers … so I thought why not, pulled out my iPhone and took 3-4 pictures. After getting home at my flat, I started looking at them and one of them inspired me and give me the guts to participate in the monthly wallpaper features on SMASHINGMAGAZINE.

Started tweaking the picture a little applied the calendar and other things prepared the file in multiple resolutions, zipped it and sent it. When the time came, what do you know I GOT FEATURED on the MAY Edition with my piece BLOOMING by Alexandru Nastase.

Well … HE/SHE IS NOT! They are not right because they do not know the role which white space plays in a design, they think that is unused space and we need to fill that and crowed everything in it. In most cases the client might be right … you know why?

Because you screwed up explaining to the client your role, your job, why did he came to you, why you are needed and why his decisions on this matter are wrong. Because most people who think they know Design/Web Design and so on they really do not … if you see a tutorial on youtube about photoshop that dose not give you the necessary experience in the field, and so you stupidly let the client take decisions that you should!

With every new client the process will repeat, no one is born with this knowledge, you need to explain it to them. If they know it than they will not hire you, if they hire you than they do no know it.

Experiment if you want with ways of explaining, draw a board with the process, write up a draft and send it to the client at first and tell them this is how I work those are my conditions, thus removing the unwanted moment when the client is trying to do your job and starts explaining what you SHOULD do.

Do not let them take your job away from you, clients are not right, they are unknowing, they need to be thought and not left to lead the process, be a professional. Do this by not only designing pretty pixels, but explaining why you designed the pretty pixels and also by articulating why you made certain decisions. Don’t forget you’re teaching them a new language, be patient.

For the past almost 3 weeks I’ve been daunting and working on a project at the office that simply pushed my limits to an unbelievable limit, honestly it did.

The project consisted of a website redesign and the creation of a new brand identity for a product of the website. Yeah I know sounds so simple to many out there, especially to the client, right ? Well it honestly is not! (If you are a designer/frontend developer or a backend one you will know what I’m talking about)

The process to me is pleasant, yeah I really love what I do, when I do it how is supposed to be done, professionally and well thought, organized, things are thought to the finest detail and than put together in a certain order … Not pushed and hurried up to finish in 2 weeks what would take I don’t know, let’s say 1 month give or take. Everything started nice and easy, me enthusiastic, them … orbiting a star past the Milky Way, but in the end, after a long meeting and also long stories and explanations we got along and settled on some terms, guidelines and yeah, designs. Aspects that honestly, I think flew out the window when everybody left the room.

After 2 days of waiting for briefs and feedback on some sketches we received (well I received) some strange emails that were full of task and demands that were never specified, yeah I know very screwed up…feedback came in, or maybe not. The feedback was not feedback, the email was simply instructions and wishes for something entirely different than what we talked about and what they sent in the first drafts and emails.

This thing went on for about two months, with overworked hours and nerve wracking emails and amazingly stupid requests that were just plain … STUPID (requests that do not include technical stuff or design knowledge). Honestly I do not know how I got through it (well my girlfriend helped me a lot), I’m not certain if I finished getting through it.

This thought me, the hard way, that sometimes you really need to fight, HARD, to stay true to yourself and never give up on anything, your ideas your concepts.

And after almost a whole year of trying and struggling to make time for me and to start on the second version of my website, I made it and finished it…for the moment I think.

I did the design twice, merged the two and than redesigned that design. I know, a huge headache but I got where I wanted and where I thought it looked the way I felt it had to and also represented me truly. I also wanted to keep my initial idea of the left main graphic with the flowing colours and my logo in the middle, representing my flow of ideas and imagination, inside which the a navigation can be found, representing my organised chain of thought through out my projects.

In this one I decided to lose the contact page and make it more focused on where you are. Let’s say you want to contact me and not steer away from the PROJECTS PAGE cause you saw a project there that looks like the one you want to build, well to do that you only have to click the “Let’s talk” in the footer or the CONTACT button in the left menu and a contact box will drop down for easy access letting you stay where you currently are.

The project boxes have suffered a rethinking, adding to them more information on the project with descriptions, roles, collaborations and also testimonials, making them more complete for your knowledge.

I’ve tied together the about and awards page, from my opinion, the awards you win are still information about you and what you do and your career.

The skills page, well nothing much there was altered from the previous version only added more information and styled it a little bit more.

I kinda wanted it to look more flashy but it needed to be done and to be simple and to present me!

Hope you all like it.
